Design, Build and Display
Tecno Spark 9 is ergonomically designed with a prominent water drop at the front and a Dual Camera set up at the rear. The body frame and back of the device are made of plastic, while the front is glass. The rounded edges and flat surfaces are typical of all Tecno smartphones. The good finishing makes the Spark 9 appear premium and feel premium, although it’s a typical budget device. It measures 164.6 x 76 x 9 mm. 9mm is quite thick for a smartphone, considering there are devices as thin as 7mm. Anyway, one could argue the Spark 9 is a bug smartphone, considering its dimensions and a 6.6-inch screen.
The 6.6-inch display is made of IPS LCD, with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Not bad for a budget device, considering its resolution is 720 x 1600 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~266 ppi density). Not one of the brightest devices, but it will get the job done when it comes to content consumption via the display and normal use that requires a smooth user interface.
Performance and Battery
Tecno Spark 9 devices are available in 3 variants, in terms of memory space: 3GB RAM 64 GB internal memory capacities, 4GB 64 GB, and 6 RAM 128GB. This memory space is sufficient to enable efficient running of operations and storing of the users’ content. The more the RAM, the better the user experience.
The device runs on Android 12, HIOS 8.6 Operating System. This is the latest Android OS platform with all updates to enable optimal operations and user experience when using the device. A Mediatek MT6765V/CB Helio G37 (12 nm) Chipset runs operations in the background, supported by Octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and PowerVR GE8320. The CPU is powerful and helps to optimize the battery usage of the device.
It is not one of the best devices for playing video games, considering its features and specifications make it a budget phone. For a casual gamer, you can play basic games. For serious gamers, we recommend you go for a device with superior specifications.
In terms of battery, Spark 9 is powered by a 5,000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery. Unfortunately, the device does not come with a fast charger, but ypu can opt to buy one separately. Considering it has a normal Micro USB 2.0 port, you can charge and transfer data using available wired USB chargers.
Sensors and Connectivity.
The device comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. This enables convenient and safe access to the phone. Other sensors include an accelerometer and a Proximity sensor. A-GPS enabled easier navigability, which is important for motorists who need direction.
The device supports network connectivity up to 4G. It supports GSM/HSPA/LTE technologies and HSPA 42.2/5.76 Mbps, LTE speed. A dual SIM provision enables easy network switching, depending on network connectivity. Wireless connection is enabled through seamless Bluetooth pairing which is support, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Hotspot which enables sharing of Wi-Fi to other devices.
The cameras are not one of the strongest points of the device. at the front, the user will capture selfies and enjoy quality video calls using the 8 MP, (wide) camera. It features an LED flash which enables illumination to capture quality images and videos in low light. The front camera’s lens is located at the water drop notch.
At the rear, Tecno Spark 9 packs a Dual Camera set-up. The two cameras comprise a primary 13 MP, f/1.9, 27mm (wide), AF, and a secondary camera (details yet to be confirmed). The autofocus in the rear camera set-up enables quality video and snap capture, with a dual LED, HDR, and panorama enabling the users to utilize options based on need and circumstances. The main camera captures 1080p videos@30fps, which is a standard on modern-day smartphones.
