Apple iPhone 14 Pro sets the table for the future of the iPhone line. It takes a potential negative, like the notch, and turns it into an intriguing new interface. By adding a 48MP camera, always-on display and adaptive refresh rates, Apple finally puts the phone on a more level playing field with Android competitors and beats everyone to the stratospheric punch with satellite-enabled communications. The phone - and the bigger iPhone 14 Pro Max - also get the latest Apple mobile silicon for what could be best-in-class performance and a promise that you're getting what you pay for.
Powering it all is Apple's new A16 Bionic chip, which has 6 CPU cores, 5 GPU cores, and a 16-core neural engine. Apple claims it's more powerful than the previous A15 Bionic chip, which lives on in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.?While I have no reason to doubt Apple - its silicon is consistently leading the industry - I won't know just how powerful it is until I test it fully. During my brief hands-on, the iPhone 14 Pro responded quickly and well to all actions and touches. That's not much of a test, though. Stay tuned.
The other big benefit of all these new iPhone 14 phones is that they come with a brand new platform: iOS 16.
