The DJI RS 4 is a professional-grade 3-axis gimbal stabilizer built for filmmakers, content creators and solo cinematographers who need smooth, reliable stabilization with a variety of advanced features. Its high-torque motors deliver responsive and precise movement control, making it capable of supporting mainstream mirrorless cameras, cinema setups and heavier lenses, up to a payload of 3 kg (6.6 lb).
One of the standout features is its 4th‑generation RS stabilization algorithm, which enhances stability across all axes and improves performance in challenging shooting scenarios, such as fast movements and vertical video. The gimbal also includes a 2nd-gen automated axis lock system that makes setup and storage much faster: the axes lock automatically when powered off, reducing the risk of misalignment and helping preserve balance during transport.
For vertical shooting, the RS 4 introduces 2nd-gen native vertical support via a redesigned horizontal plate. You can quickly flip the plate to switch to portrait orientation without adding extra accessories. Its tilt axis has been extended by 8.5 mm, which helps with balancing heavier cameras and lens combinations while maintaining smooth operation.
User control is made intuitive by a built-in OLED touchscreen that features an auto-lock function. The screen locks during inactivity and displays current gimbal modes and joystick status, minimizing accidental touches and power consumption. An adjustable fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis enables millimeter-level balancing to achieve precise setups.
The RS 4 has multiple control and connectivity options: a joystick, Dual-Mode Bluetooth, and flight app control via the Ronin app. It also features an RSA port, allowing you to connect accessories like the DJI Focus Pro Motor for precise focus or zoom adjustment. With the Pro Motor, the joystick can be switched between zoom and gimbal control, giving you greater flexibility during shoots.
In terms of power, the gimbal uses a 3,000 mAh built-in battery, offering up to 12 hours of runtime on a single charge. For extended sessions, DJI’s BG70 high-capacity battery grip can be attached to prolong operating time significantly ideal for long shoots or remote filming. The grip also supports 18W power output, which can be used to power other devices like cameras or external accessories via USB‑C.
For durability, its axes are Teflon™-coated, reducing friction and making balancing smoother. The body has a robust build and includes NATO mounting ports for modular accessories. Operating temperature ranges from –20°C to +45°C, allowing it to function in a wide variety of environments.
Lastly, the RS 4 supports intelligent creative modes through the Ronin app, such as panoramas, time-lapses and ActiveTrack, while its trigger button can be customized for quick mode switching for example, to FPV mode (where the gimbal’s axes follow the direction of the grip when the trigger is held).
Overall, the DJI RS 4 is a versatile, powerful, and smart stabilizer that brings pro‑level stabilization and control to solo filmmakers and creatives working with mirrorless or cinema cameras.
